I guess a lot of you will know by now that I love anything that has to do with fairy lights. Especially a DIY! And because for us Muslims, the holy month of Ramadan is here, I thought why not get the kids all excited about Ramadan by making these decorative DIY fairy lights.
I have to admit, making the shapes of the moon and star were very fiddly and quite tough. Especially when it got to twisting the ends of the wires together. Ultimately, how pretty they look when they are hung definitely was worth the bit of struggle.
Also, this was probably the cheapest DIY I have ever had to make. I already had everything I needed at home to make it. But if you don’t here is a list of what you’ll need:
- Strong Pliers
- LED Micro Fairy Lights
- Wire Coat Hangers
- Glue Gun
Step 1. To make the moon shape, you will need 2 wire hangers and 1 set of fairy lights. Open out both of the wire hangers and curve them both into semi-circles.
Step 2. Twist the ends of the wire together with your pliers. Cut the ends off using your pliers.
Step 3. Then, with your glue gun, glue the ends of the wires together so it holds the shape and doesn’t unravel.
Step 4. Now twist your fairy lights around the shape of your moon and you are done with the moon!
Step 5. For the star shape, you will only need 1 wire hanger. Open out your wire hanger as straight as possible and fold it down the middle.
Step 6. Once you have folded down the middle, start to curve the edges of the star and join both of the ends of the wire once you are done.
Step 7. Again, twist the ends of the wires together. Next twist 1 set of fairy lights around your star. And you’re done with the star!

I hope you enjoyed the DIY, it was definitely fun to make although it was quite tough when it came to twisting the ends. It has made a great addition to our Ramadan decor this year.
