My top 7 London cafes seem to be coming along slowly, but I have finally gotten around to writing about my third cafe in the series! Woop Woop! And my chosen cafe is Fait Maison. And honestly, all I can say is there is a very important reason why this cafe made it!
Okay, so I ended up going to the Fait Maison branch in Gloucester Road. It had an unbelievable beautiful flower display outside. (Which is probably why we were drawn to visiting this one in particular.) Like I said before, I am a huge sucker for flower displays. Lately, they seem to really be in trend with the cafes and restaurants. And this flower display outside this cafe was just so stunning! Honestly. I absolutely loved it.
Which is no surprise coming from me since faux flower displays seem to be something I just can’t help but love! It was definitely picture-worthy. And you can imagine how much we stood around taking pictures outside.
The inside of the cafe was just as picture-worthy too! With a wonderful array of flowers going up one side of the wall. There was also a lovely sofa next to it which became a picture attraction for us sitting next to the flower wall. I always think it is such a great idea for shops to be creative with their decor. It definitely becomes an attractive feature which sometimes gets customers coming back again and again.
I will be honest, as much as a shop having wonderful decor, beautifully decorated walls, lights and tables are important, I think one thing that must never be forgotten is service. And boy, did I experience bad service at a cafe I attended last week and frankly, I didn’t even want to be in the cafe anymore even though it was absolutely beautiful.
When I went to Fait Maison, all I can say is it was probably the best service I have ever experienced. The waiters and were lovely. They were kind and unbelievably patient with us. When we first walked into the shop we were deliberating where to sit. (Call me strange and picky but where I sit in a cafe always sets the mood for me. It creates an atmosphere and usually depends on how I am feeling.) So the group of girls I went with and I took a bit of time deciding where to be seated. The waiter was extremely patient and let us take our time with it.
We then sat down and one of us still hadn’t arrived so we waited for our friend to come who took quite a while. Again, the waiters were very patient with us. I think another factor which really stood out for me was after we were served our food, one of the waiters came to us and asked if the food was okay and if we were happy with everything. I think that is such a great little touch because if there is anything wrong or you want to add something you can ask at that point.
So overall in terms of service, I personally thought it was one of the best I have come across so far. So for me, because of the service, in particular, it definitely made it a more pleasant experience altogether. And because of that, it’s definitely somewhere I would return to eat.
Onto the decor. It was very French chic. Macarons, teapots, and teacups were on the walls around the shop. There were vintage French dining chairs and the tables were decorated with pink flowers. I loved how they had antique french photo frames too. And it was so cute that there were even plates hung up on the walls.
Whenever we go to these cafes, we always like to see what the toilet decor looks like too. And let’s just say they kept up the vintage French decor going all the way down to the toilets. Very beautifully decorated toilet too. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get the picture of it up.
Okay now, onto my favourite part. Food! And literally, this is usually always the make or break part of the whole cafe experience. So when we first got to the cafe and sat down, we were all given a menu each. And I was actually given the wrong menu. And it wasn’t the menu for drinks or for desserts, it was actually the menu for one of their other branches strangely enough! The food on the menu looked amazing. And after choosing what I wanted and telling the waiter, he looked at me, double checked the menu and apologised as it was the wrong menu. And went on to further explain that it was a menu from their other branch.
I was a little disappointed as the food on the other menu sounded delicious. But didn’t mind so much and went ahead with ordering from the correct menu. And that’s when we found out the Gloucester Road branch sold all day breakfast and desserts. They didn’t actually have a lunch menu. And again, I didn’t mind so much as I can eat breakfast food all day.
So we ordered the full English which came with baby potatoes, sausages, mushrooms, beans, toast, and salad. It was very tasty, I loved the flavour of the sausages. My only downside with them was that they were a little small. Other than that it was very tasty.
Dessert was delicious! I chose the Messy Hot Chocolate (which was perfect by the way). The hot chocolate wasn’t too sweet and looked very pretty too.
I also chose a giant Raspberry Macaron. The macaron was filled with raspberries and cream. It had a gorgeous texture and delicious taste which went so well with the raspberry and cream filling. The perfect way to end our meal.
Overall, Fait Maison was a pleasure to visit. It was great feeling the experience as a whole and getting great service. It builds a great atmosphere and everything becomes more enjoyable. The food was great and the decor was so beautiful! We did end up taking a lot of pictures, which usually happens when I love the way a place looks.
