My Big Kitchen Makeover
Okay so, this is probably the most exciting makeover in my home so far. My decorating process usually happens in small chunks around my home. I hadn’t done a whole room makeover at once until now. The kitchen. And this involved a full strip out of everything inside the kitchen, cupboards, walls, the whole lot! (Which was all a bit scary). Read along to see how it transformed.
So, my kitchen was extremely old, and I didn’t want to do any DIY’s to “try” and make it look better. It definitely needed to just be removed and changed. (You’ll understand why when you have a look at the pictures).
I wasn’t really sure the type of look I wanted inside the kitchen, all I knew is that I wanted it to have black, and for it to look slightly modern. I love the modern look, but I also love glam and retro. You can probably guess what I did next right? Yep, I tried to incorporate all of those little touches I love, into the kitchen.
I believe that incorporating all of these different themes reflected everything I love right now. Especially for a kitchen. And for those of you that have been following along for a while now, you probably won’t be surprised if you see flowers and gold accents (because I can’t live without flowers and gold)!
Okay so let me just start by showing how the kitchen looked before. I think it is safe to say, we have come a long long way from what it was! The transformation was huge and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome! I will leave links to where everything is from below the pictures.
Removable wallpaper from > Floral Coloray
Rug is from > Wayfair
It was so hard to choose the perfect rug because I chose the wallpaper first for the kitchen makeover. All I knew was that I wanted a Persian rug but there are so many different types to chose from. I also wanted a rug that looked good with the wallpaper as it is such a strong print. I wanted the colours to go well together as they both really stand out. The rest of the kitchen is quite simple so I felt these two had to work for the whole kitchen to work.
I had a lot of help choosing the rug, I ran some polls on my Instagram and my lovely followers really helped me to decide which one to get. It was between this rug and a pink and white rug from River Island. I decided to go for this one in the end because it is dark and we all know spills in the kitchen are impossible to avoid.
Gold and acrylic handles from Etsy > here
Tip: Even if you have super cheap cabinets, buy fancy handles and it will automatically make it look expensive.
Everyone that walks into the kitchen now can’t help but notice the handles. It definitely was the perfect amount of gold I needed and also made it look more glam.
Old Zinc Vase is from Amazon > here
One of the reasons I got this vase is because I love the way flower shops display their flowers. And they are usually in pots like these. I specifically wanted to go for a flower shop type of look when it came to displaying the flowers. Honestly, I wanted to get more Zinc pots, but because my kitchen is quite small, I just stuck to one.
Cookie jar is from H&M home, I bought it a while ago so I don’t think it is available anymore.
Blue hydrangeas are from Amazon > here
Pink hydrangeas are from Amazon > here
Golden Pothos plant is from > Patch Plants
I absolutely love the fact that Patch Plants named her Rapunzel. I still call her that. She has grown so beautifully since I bought her.
The gold wire dish rack is from > Red Candy
The kitchen cabinets and table tops are from Magnet. The kitchen overall took just over one month to complete from start to finish. That is probably because I have the worlds smallest kitchen. The makeover has definitely made it look more spacious. It has become a room I love being in and surprisingly cooking has become more exciting too!
I hope you enjoyed seeing the before and after!
