An Organised Work Area – Why It Is Important

I recently updated my workspace area at home. It’s something that I was supposed to do a while ago, but I kept putting it off. Procrastination probably has something to do with it and because I was constantly changing my mind on how I wanted it to look. One thing I truly believe is that however beautifully decorated your work area may be, an organised work area is what will really matter.

So just a quick update about my desk area and please feel free to tell me what you guys think! A while ago I wrote a post about how I wanted to decorate my desk area. That Chic Home Office was a post about inspiration for my future desk area and how I wanted to decorate it. So now that I have finally gotten around to decorating it, here it is! My updated organised work area. Check out the post to see if I stuck to my guns with how I wanted to decorate back then. (I always love to see how my mind has changed when it comes to decorating!)

Anyway, back to our main topic. I love working at a desk, it helps to clear my mind of everything that is going on around me and just focus on what is in front of me. This is why I find an organised work area really helps with keeping a clear mind and increasing productivity. Below, read about why I believe an organised work area is very important!

These are some of the reasons for keeping that desk organised and how you might be able to start. Here goes

1 – Clean desk, clean mind. Simple as! Clear your work area so it isn’t so cluttered. It will really actually help you with de-cluttering your mind just before starting your work. What’s important about this is that it will help you to spend less time organising before your work and more time getting on with what you are supposed to.

One thing that will help with increasing that work time is by spending a little time tidying up after every work session. Put everything back to where it is supposed to be and it will really help with speeding up work time. And best of all, it will help with starting your day with a clear mind.

2 – Organise your work into folders that stay in a particular place. This will help you to get to it quickly when you need it. Rushing around trying to find where you last placed something important will only get you into a muddle. (Not cool when you have a deadline!).

Buy some folders and storage boxes and place your important work in a nice order. This way, remembering where you left it will be easier and getting to it will be quicker! (Just don’t forget to place it back when you’re done).

3 – Make it inspirational! Decorate it so when you walk in, you’ll want to stay. Sounds silly right? But I find, from personal experience, that I work better when the area that I am working in, inspires me to want to work.

Get some motivational wall decor or decorate with colours that inspire you. Inspiration always helps with productivity. Make this little area comfortable and exciting for your use, remember it is for YOU.

I hope these reasons have helped with answering why an organised work area can help your productivity levels. I would absolutely love to know how you increase productivity in your own office. Don’t feel shy to comment below how you like to get organised or if you haven’t started yet, where would you start?

  1. Completely agree with what you said about the importance of an organised work area and not just that, I believe we should always keep our space organised. In fact, it irritates me when I see everything jumbed up lol! Great tips and your office looks amazing…thanks for the inspiration!

  2. I love the way you have set up your work space! I can’t agree with you more about the need for a separate area for ourselves for work. I also think it is one way of self-care. And yes to all the 3 points!

  3. That’s a bright and clean work area….Sometimes my work area is messy as I use the same table to take food pictures….wink wink….thank you for the tips….

  4. I love this and I couldn’t agree more. A clean desk/house or anything else for that helps maintain clean mind. Thanks for bringing that to light.
