How do we teach our kids about the Quran? I mean, like where should we start? Do we show them the Quran and explain to them what it is? I mean, my eldest is at that age now where I can explain things to him and he can understand what they are, so I feel now is a great time for me to introduce to him what the Quran is. Which is what brings me to a special little book called My First Book About The Quran, by Sara Khan and illustrated by Ali Lodge.
I received this book from Kube Publishing not long ago. I am not going to lie, I was literally so attracted to the book as soon as I saw it because of how colourful it is. (Talk about judge a book by its cover much!) But trust me, this book isn’t just beautiful, its content is just as amazing as the cover.
One of the main reasons I wanted to get my hands on My First Book About The Quran is because of what it teaches.
When it comes to the Quran, I find myself teaching my son more of how to read it, rather than what it is. So this book is so wonderful because it introduces the Quran to our little ones and explains what it is about in a way which they can digest and take interest in.
For example, the illustrations have been made in a way which is so colourful and attractive. This instantly catches a young child’s attention. But also, the illustrations and writing go really well together making it really easy for a child to see and imagine what is being explained.
Another way is the way it has been written. It is very easy for a child to understand. There is repetition which will help your child to remember the main points of the book. There is also a wonderful easy-to-read flow to it too. Honestly, it makes reading it out loud to your kids very pleasant.
There aren’t too many words on each page, it gets to the point pretty quickly. My son has a very short attention span, and knowing that he doesn’t get impatient waiting for me to turn the page is a huge plus! He’ll wait patiently until I finish reading each page. And while I read, he gets preoccupied with looking at the pictures.
I love how every page starts with, “Allah wants us to…” or, “Allah made…“. I feel like this really helps them to understand who created the Quran and what Allah wants us to do. The very basic foundation of the Quran is very important for our kids to understand and I feel like the book as a whole does that very well masha’Allah.
And it’s such a great book to keep going back to, I can see how a child would want to keep reading it again and again. It’s been very cleverly written in a way to capture a child’s attention. (I know I’ve said it a few times before, but it’s true!)
The last page of the book was something I didn’t expect, but I absolutely loved! There is a facts about the Quran and questions about the Quran section. This is great as it’ll help your child to reflect on the Quran and the book.
Overall, I absolutely love My First Book About The Quran! (Look at me talking like the book was written for an adult!) What I was supposed to say is, my son loves it. Masha’Allah, it speaks of a very important subject which is very crucial for our little ones to learn and understand. I also feel like teaching them this early will also help with reading the Quran too!
The book is only £4.99 and if you’re interested in getting a copy for your little one too, head over to >>>Kube Publishing<<<
